Prohibition Era Cocktails: How to make the Bennett mixed drink.

Bennett Recipe:
Ingredients
• 6 parts Gin
• 2 parts Lime Juice
• 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Note: Part can be a tablesppon.

Procedure:
Shake in a cocktail shaker until nice and cold,
Pour into a cocktail or short glass filled with ice.

Prohibition Era Cocktails: The "Coffee Cocktail" of the roaring 20's using Brandy and Port.

Prohibition Era Cocktail: How to make the classic Coffee Cocktail mixed drink.

This drink contains no coffee, contrary to the name. A cocktail that uses egg, like a lot of vintage cocktails from this era. Brandy and port are the dominate sports with a dash of bitters for depth.

Coffee Cocktail Recipe:
Ingredients
• 1 dash of bitters (optional)
• 1 whole egg
• 1 tsp Simple Syrup
• 1 1/2 oz Brandy
• 1 1/2 oz Port

Procedure:
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold.

Prohibition Era Cocktail drinks: The Monkey Gland recipe, a popular drink in the roaring 20's that used Absinthe.

Prohibition Era Cocktails: How to make the Monkey Gland mixed drink, A Classic 1920's Cocktail.

Many of the younger bartenders today will have no idea how to make this classic cocktail.

The Monkey Gland is a gin-based cocktail that was invented in the 1920's. Grenadine and Pernod give this gin drinks it's main flavors. Harry MacElhone, owner of Harry’s New York Bar in Paris France, is credited with inventing the first Monkey Gland cocktail.

The original recipe for the Monkey Gland called for anisette, or absinthe but both Pernod and Bénédictine have become common to use.

Monkey Gland Cocktail Drink


Monkey Gland Recipe:
Ingredients
• 2 ounces gin (Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Beefeater, etc.)
• 1 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice
• 2 dashes of grenadine
• 2 dashes of Pernod or Bénédictine (absinthe)
• Twist of orange peel

Procedure:
Shake all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, and then strain the mixture into a glass. Garnish with a slice of orange.

How to make the old school prohibition cocktail called the Luigi.
1920s Classic Cocktail.



Luigi Recipe:
Ingredients:
• 6 Tsp Gin (Bombay Sapphire, Hendrick's Gin, Tanqueray, Beefeater, etc.)
• 6 Tsp Dry Vermouth (Martini and Rossi, Noilly Prat, etc.)
• 1 Tsp Grenadine
• Dash Cointreau
• Juice of Half an Orange or Tangerine

Procedure:
Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a glass.
Garnish with a segment of tangerine or orange.

Like most Prohibition Era cocktails, this drink uses Gin as a base ingredient.
This is a very easy vintage cocktail to make.


Orange Blossom Recipe
Ingredients:
• 6 Tsp Gin  (Bombay Sapphire, Hendrick's Gin, Beefeater, Tanqueray, etc.)
• 6 Tsp Squeezed Orange juice

Procedure:
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake until cold.
Strain and pour into a martini or cocktail glass.
Garnish with a orange peel.

White Lady Recipe:
Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 oz. Gin (Bombay Sapphire, Hendrick's Gin, Beefeater, Tanqueray, etc.)
• 1 1/2 oz. Cointreau
• 1 1/2 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
• 1/2 Egg White (Optional)

Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.
Then strain and pour into a Cocktail Glass.

Prohibition Era Cocktail Drinks: The "Mary Pickford" Recipe, a popular Cuban cocktail in the Roaring 20's.

How to make the Mary Pickford Cocktail drink from the Prohibition Era.

Mary Pickford and her husband, Douglas Fairbanks, the golden-haired Mary Pickford was at the highest spot of the first generation of movie royalty.  This cocktail honors her and comes from 1920's Cuba. A it helped to make rum more popular.
And was a inspiration for many Tiki or Tropical cocktails with it's use of rum and pineapple juice, a main ingredient in many tiki and tropical cocktails today.

Mary Pickford Recipe:
Ingredients
• 1 1/2 oz white rum (Bacardi, Cruzan, etc.)
• 1 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
• 1/2 teaspoon grenadine
• 1/8 oz marashino


Procedure:
Shack ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice until cold.
Pour and strain  cocktail into chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Prohibition Era Cocktails: The Bacardi Cocktail Drink Recipe for the 1920's.

How to make the classic Bacardi Cocktail from the Prohibition Era.
This drink was very popular in Florida during Prohibition because it was so close to Cuba.

The Bacardi Cocktail was the same as the Daiquiri, until a lawsuit changed the name. The drink contains the Rum, Lime and Sugar. There is a red version of the Bacardi that started in the United States and this uses Grenadine.











1917 Version of the Bacardi Cocktail• 1 drink Bacardi Rum
• 1/2 of the juice of a fresh lime
• 2 dashes Gum Syrup  (Sugar Syrup)

Shake well in a cocktail shaker with ice.
Strain and serve.

US Bacardi Cocktail Recipe:
Ingredients

• 1 1/2 oz light rum (Bacardi)
• 1 /2 oz Fresh lime juice
• 3 dashes of grenadine

Procedure:Shake well in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice.
Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

It is strange that this drink mixes Scotch and Gin together, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The Barbary Coast cocktail got it's name from a red-light district in San Francisco, California.

3/4 oz blended Scotch
3/4 oz gin
3/4 oz crème de cacao
3/4 oz heavy cream

Procedure:

Prohibition Era Cocktails: The Whiskey Old-Fashioned Recipe.

Whiskey Old-Fashioned
The Old-Fashioned was around before Prohibition and it is still with us today.
It might be one of the first drinks to be called a cocktail.

The origins of the cocktail can be traced back to 1806. The first time the name appears is in the 1880's. It is one of the original 6 cocktails.

Whiskey Old Fashioned


Whiskey Old-Fashioned Recipe:
• 1 1/2 oz. Whiskey or Rye Bourbon
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1 Sugar Cube
• 1 Lemon Peel
• 3 Ice Cubes

Procedure:
In the bottom of a Old Fashioned Glass muddle 1 sugar cube with about a teaspoon of water.
Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and muddle some more.
Add the Bourbon and stir.
Add 3 ice cubes and stir again.
Squeeze a lemon slice over the drink, then drop it in.
Let the drink sit for a few minutes.
